There are a multitude of status effects that can occur during battle, and each one can usually spell defeat in one way or another if you're not careful. Here's a little guide on the status conditions themselves.
Stunned: The target is unable to move or act for a certain amount of turns. The target can still gain EP, though. Players who have the Earth element are unaffected by this status condition.
Lasting Damage: This status effect causes the user to take a certain amount of damage for a certain amount of turns, usually dictated by the offending Ability. Unfortunately, this effect can't be countered.
Incapacitated: This is pretty much just a fancy way of saying your character just fell asleep on the battlefield. Usually, this can be countered by hitting the affected player with a Physical move.
Corrupted: The affected character loses all sanity and starts attacking on its own. This pretty much means that while a character is corrupted, we take control of it for the duration of the condition and make it do what we want it to do.
Frozen: The character is frozen solid in a block of ice. The character can still gain EP, and can usually be thawed out by blasting it with a Fire element Ability. Players with the Ice element are unaffected by this status condition.
Immobilized: This is probably the worst condition to have, for the character is completely immobilized and can't gain EP. Your character pretty much becomes a vegetable, and this status can't be countered.
Possessed: The character is taken over by the player who inflicted the status condition. This effect can only be applied in battles with more than one player on each side. This effect can be countered by hitting the affected player with a Special ability whose Power is over 250. Players with the Ghost element are unaffected by this status condition.
When a character is affected by a status condition, record the number of turns they have the condition for. This number decreases at the end of the affected player's turn. Also, in compliance with lasting damage, apply the damage the player takes every turn.
Ex:
Rayna used Fire Vortex! (40 EP)
(blah blah blah, stats stats stats...)
Grunt takes 140 damage! (230/370)
Grunt will take 50 lasting damage for 5 turns!
(during Grunt's turn...)
Rayna takes 70 damage! (350/470)
Grunt's turn ends.
Grunt takes 50 damage! (180/370)
Lasting damage: 4 turns remaining.
